Memberships

Membership dues are payable May 1st each year and must be paid within thirty (30) days of that date.

Definitions

1.    Associate (Single or Family): Any newly accepted individual, and any or all family members listed on the   membership application.  Associates will receive the newsletter and may submit news, competition results, etc. Associates may not hold office, vote, or serve as an instructor.  Associate classification continues for one year.  Associates may attend all club functions, serve on committees and, provided criteria are met, join any team.

2.    Ordinary (Single or Family): After one year an Associate member's name and any or all family members listed on the membership application may be proposed for approval of Ordinary membership. Ordinary membership allows the member voting privileges, the opportunity to hold a position on the executive and join the training staff. Only one vote is allowed per family membership.

3.    Life: In acknowledgement of outstanding service to the Club, Life memberships may be bestowed once every five years (1998, 2003, 2008. etc) Up to three members may be designated as Life at these times.  Any member in good standing may submit a name for consideration to the Executive Committee which will present the nominations) to the Annual Meeting where a majority vote of two thirds of members present is required for approval.

4.    Junior: Any person under the age of 18 who holds a single membership.  The privileges are as Associate or Ordinary, but the right to vote is withheld in either case.  Juniors do not hold office.  

Membership status is determined from the date of executive approval.

Rights.  Privileges and Responsibilities of Members

COKC is bound by the constitution and by-laws of the Canadian Kennel Club. As such, members are expected to abide by and support these rules as well as our own.

Privileges:

  1. participation on Club Committees

  2. participation on Club Teams (please refer to team section for specific criteria)

  3. Ordinary and Life members receive discounts on class fees and a 15% discount on available training equipment provided they are active on the cleaning roster or alternative work list (available from the Training Director.)

  4. library privileges

  5. practice time in the presence of an Instructor or Team Captain

  6. inclusion in The Hall of Fame

  7. Footprints, the Club newsletter

  8. participation in Graduation fun matches (whether active in current class sessions or not)

  9. earning legs towards Club Titles for their dogs

  10. for a nominal fee members may utilize floor time, meaning: with the prior knowledge and approval of the Instructor, occasionally attend a class in which the member is not enrolled

  11. Instructors, assistants and Team Captains have the privilege of utilizing floor time free of charge providing the Instructor approves.

  12. practices may be offered to members entered in the annual show/trail for a floor time fee. The  Training Director is in charge of arrangements.

Responsibilities:

  1. When representing C.O.K.C. at a demonstration, competition or race, members must conduct themselves in such a way that the Club in positively viewed.  Bad manners and negativism are not acceptable.

  2. members who's names appear on the cleaning roster, or alternative duty list receive a discount of 50% off regular obedience class fees. (The discount does not apply to agility classes which are all ready half price.)

  3. failure to perform volunteer work will result in payment/repayment of full fees.

Meetings:

  1. General membership meetings are held in April and October of each year.  The Annual Meeting, at which election of officers takes place, is in April.

  2. all members are encouraged to attend, whether or not they are eligible to vote.

  3. other meetings are referred to in the Club By-Laws, Article 11 Item 7.
